Dit besluit lijkt misschien ver van ons af te staan, maar kan wel degelijk indirect grote gevolgen hebben voor Nederlandse bedrijven en financi\u00eble instellingen wanneer men rekening houdt met de Wwft, internationale sancties en Europese regelgeving.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-18b987e elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"18b987e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Protection from the EU<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-39176b4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"39176b4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>To protect European companies from such sanctions, the European Union introduced what is known as the <span style=\"color: #f6ae4d;\"><a style=\"color: #f6ae4d;\" href=\"https:\/\/finance.ec.europa.eu\/eu-and-world\/open-strategic-autonomy\/extraterritoriality-blocking-statute_en?prefLang=nl\">Blocking Statute<\/a><\/span> . This regulation prohibits European companies from cooperating with certain foreign sanctions, such as those imposed by the U.S. against Cuba. In addition, it provides legal means to recover damages resulting from non-compliance with the foreign sanctions.<\/p><p>Dit klinkt als een goede oplossing, maar in de praktijk zorgt het voor een lastig speelveld. Nederlandse bedrijven moeten balanceren tussen Amerikaanse regels en de Europese bescherming tegen diezelfde regels. Het gevolg? These sanctions can certainly affect companies outside the U.S. that, for example, trade in U.S. dollars or have a relationship with U.S. banks.
